Super fun for your Arduino or ESP8266 or ESP32 project. The APDS-9930 sensor is a chip that can, among other things, measure ambient light and (short) distance. The distance detection works up to about 100mm; this chip is often used in phones to lock/dim the screen when the phone is held against the ear. Furthermore, the light intensity can be measured as well as the color of the light (RGB).
